Cadence Weapon - Juliann Wilding
So Afterparty Babies hits shelves on Tuesday, and it kills me how great it is. It just keeps improving with each listen.
"Juliann Wilding" is everything I love about Justice all wrapped up in one track. Except it's actually better than Justice. And I don't say that to be controversial. Justice is awesome. But ultimately, it's just insane music to dance to. Cadence Weapon has the insanely awesome production down, but he also lends a very human presence to this track, and ends up with something that's also funny and touching. Crack out the headphones for this one. I'm thinking it's my new favourite song of 2008.
Pemberton has really smoothed out a lot of the edges in his rapping, and it shows on the album. Maybe it's just that I can now hear everything he's saying, but he seems a lot less guarded this time around, more willing to let us into his head. Nothing too uncomfortably personal, but personal nonetheless. Production-wise, the sound of the album is pretty smooth and shiny as well, but it still retains a lot of the trademark abrasiveness that Breaking Kayfabe had. It's just that all the idiosyncrasies of Kayfabe are synthesized into something a lot more cohesive. "In Search of the Youth Crew" is probably the smoothest thing on the album, and it's another one of my favourites. "House Music" and "We Move Away" are crazy crazy, too.
The album is amazing. Definitely check it out.

Yup, pretty much. I’m going to knock out a full-length review for my blog this weekend, even though I have a review of the disc in SEE this Thursday.
I'll look forward to reading both of those.
