rhthm & soul

I suppose this could be a super-short mixtape of sorts. More accurately, it's five tunes I've been listening to a lot over the last week, that I think fit together pretty well.

1. The Interiors - A Crooked Line
[previous post]

2. Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
It has been brought to my attention by a friend that, because I have yet to mention the VW album in 2008, it looks like I'm giving the band the shaft now that they've exploded and everyone's talking about them. Which is completely not the impression I want to give. Anyways, I would hope that the people who read this blog know that I don't roll like that. The VW album not ending up on the January round-up post was simply an oversight on my part. I love a bunch of their songs. So for anyone who cares about such things: yes, the VW album is amazing and I like it a lot.

3. Tony Morgan and The Mussel Power Band - Why Build a Mountain
(via Let's Copp a Groove)
This track was a minor hit in the UK in the early 70s, and it kicks ass. Clearly very James Brown. I can't find out much of anything about these guys.

4. Seelenluft - Manila (Zongamin Remix)
Man oh man oh man. I'm so glad I came across this track the other day via thelovejournal, cause it's pure gold. Apparently, it's an old "hipster" track from back in '03, but I think it still sounds pretty fresh in 2008. (Also: you should check out this website, and watch the pretty horse walk across your screen.)

5. Spoon - Rhthm & Soul

All good tracks, thanks, can't wait for the Spoon EP! Where did Crooked Line come from? Strange stuff but I can't shake it out of my head.

Hey Jim,

"A Crooked Line" is from the Interiors debut album, which is being released in May. I'm glad you like it. It's shaping up to be one of my favourite releases of 2008.

If you want to hear the whole album, send me an email and I can give you a link.

Yeah, can you send that to jkoz158@gmail.com . The songs on myspace were really good too, especially the first one. Thanks.
